First Day of School

No new clothes, school bus ride, or new teacher photos to share from our first day of school. It never goes like planned! I set our first day of school for Monday the 28th of June in hopes of getting several weeks complete before little sis joins our crew. Books, notebooks, paper, pencils... all the supplies were in place and ready for our 9 o'clock beginning. At 7:00 AM (yes! 7 AM), Isaac was "lecturing" me about just when we were going to get started. So the first change to my plans was a new starting time. Thank goodness there are no laws about doing school in your PJ's! We had no sooner pulled out the new books and unloaded our baskets than I spotted a baby bird at the storm door. It had obviously fallen from the nest built on the light fixture about the door. So instead of reading history, we went on line to find out how to rescue a baby bird that appeared to hardly be breathing.

Isaac discovered that crushed dog food would do the job. So with a dropper for water, an empty berry container for a nest and mushed up dog food for its breakfast, Isaac and I determined to see if we could help our new little friend survive until dad's arrival home that evening. (As hard as we tried, we just could not get high enough to place it back in the nest.)

Little bird not only managed to survive. Upon returning home from running a couple of errands, we found bird pooh across the floor and Little Bird had made its way from the kitchen in the living room! Yep. She recovered and dad got her back in the nest. Here's the family photo:

We will probably never remember a thing we studied the first day of school... except that baby birds like dog food!
